The Practioner
I am Mrs. Hua Sands MSc MCSP MAACP, the practitioner at the Lavenham Physiotherapy & Acupuncture Clinic.
I am a physiotherapist with around 20 years’ experience registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, as well as a Chartered Physiotherapist and member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. I originally studied clinical medicine and trained in acupuncture in China, where I also worked in hospitals for five years. I came to the UK in 1998, where I took the following degrees at the Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh:
- Masters Degree in Health Psychology
- Masters Degree in Physiotherapy
I set up the Lavenham Physiotherapy & Acupuncture Clinic 14 years ago, seeing an opportunity to deliver a better outcome for patients through a unique combination of physiotherapy and Chinese acupuncture approaches to musculoskeletal pain relief, plus longer and more thorough assessment and treatment sessions.
In addition to typical physiotherapy muscle and joint assessment, I do gait analysis, postural analysis and functional movement pattern assessment, because the body’s musculoskeletal system works as a whole unit and has to be assessed and treated as such.
To relieve pain for patients initially to enable them to get moving better I normally use Chinese acupuncture. The way I use acupuncture is very gentle and effective. Most of my patients feel very relaxed during the acupuncture treatment and 90% to 95% patents feel at least some pain relief after the first treatment.
If you do not like needles, I also use personalised exercises, ultrasound, soft tissue massage, and gentle mobilisation as suitable to help relieve your pain. Once you are getting better, I can teach you how to look after your joints and prevent the problem recurring.
The long sessions enable me to give you a thorough assessment, which is essential for a proper diagnosis, so that you can get the most effective treatment straight away to relieve your pain as quickly as possible. The detailed assessment also enables me to help you deal with the root of your problem, not just the symptoms, to help relieve your pain for the long term. Where other health professionals have failed, I have often been able to diagnose and help resolve my patients’ pain because I am able to take the time to fully understand my patients - see examples in many of the testimonials on my website and in the Google reviews.
I know what it is like to have musculoskeletal pain – I had a serious car accident in 2008 as a result of which my hip, both knee caps and shoulder were broken into fragments. I had to undergo seven major operations and was discharged from hospital in a wheelchair. I have helped myself to return to full functionality and pain free movement, so I have confidence in helping you also to achieve a better quality of life.
